    C. solstitialis (Yellow Starthistle) is a taller and more robust plant than C. melitensis. C. melitensis' central spines of the main phyllaries are 5-10 mm long, whereas they are longer (10-25 mm) on C. solstitialis (DiTomaso, 2001).
    Centaurea sulphurea


    C. melitensis' corolla is 10-20 mm long, whereas C. sulphurea's corolla is greater than 25 mm long (DiTomaso, 2001).
